Is There Anything Financial In This Blog

Sorry about the lack of financial stuff on the blog lately but I have just not been in the financial mood. Most of my trades have been going the wrong way early so I haven't been trading much. When the stops come quick. the trading doesn't last very long. After watching my portfolio shrink a bit this summer and fall I decided to put half of my trading account into long term stocks. Long term is always great for me. There isn't a stock I've held over 5 years that isn't up over 100% and most much more than that. The success of last year's option trading was an anomaly, I realize that, but it is hard to be more conservative after you've experienced the incredible highs of successful options trading. The great run we've had this fall was nice but I didn't reap the rewards I should have because I was very cautious. I am even more cautious this week after the big run ups. Matter of fact, I am buy and long term hold in all my stocks but short term I hold all puts, especially in the market stocks, ISE, CME. In short, sorry for the lack of financial posts. I promise to be more funny money soon and less just funny. Although funny seems to bring in more readers. I might be a better comedian than financial advisor.

This should make things easier. They've officially blown up every car in the Middle East. Great part of article is "blast kills one". Hopefully that was just the bomber.

Nutrisystems Blows Away Earnings

Much better than I imagined. Beat earnings, raised guidance, and actually has a plan to improve and increase sales. Will be upgraded several times over the next week. 46% of the shares short and a great opportunity to join the ride up. Keep it in your radar.

ORSHAM, Pa. (AP) -- NutriSystem Inc., an operator of weight-loss programs and fitness centers, said Tuesday its third-quarter profit and sales skyrocketed, easily beating Wall Street estimates.

NutriSystem earned $23.4 million, or 63 cents per share, compared with $7.2 million, or 19 cents per share, last year.

Revenue grew to $155.3 million compared with $64.5 million in the year-ago period.

Analysts polled by Thomson Financial, on average, expected a profit of 52 cents per share on $142.2 million in revenue.

Direct channel revenue was $143.5 million up from $57.7 million last year, and the company added 235,000 new customers, up from 115,000 a year earlier.

Looking ahead, NutriSystem said it expects fourth-quarter earnings of 45 cents to 48 cents per share, including 1 cent per share in stock-option expenses, on revenue of between $123 million and $128 million.

Analysts, on average, expect fourth-quarter earnings of 44 cents per share, on $120.9 million in revenue.

For the full year 2006, NutriSystem expects a profit of between $2.21 and $2.24 per share, including 9 cents per share in stock-option expenses, on revenue of $558 million to $563 million.

Analysts, on average, expect full-year profit of $2.09 per share on sales of $542.9 million.

"Our plans for 2007 include the introduction of a variety of new foods, a soon-to-be launched seniors marketing campaign and incessant focus on growing our women's and men's business," Michael J. Hagan, Chairman, president and CEO, said in a release.

Shares of NutriSystem added $1.30 to $69.28 in after-hours trading on the INET electronic stock exchange after gaining $1.05 to end at $67.98 on the Nasdaq.

Fastest Money Blog Writer on the Internet

I believe I am the fastest finisher this year in the Financial Blog World but this can't be verified. I beat last years' time by 15 minutes. I'm going to train a bit harder after a three week rest as I need to run 3:15 to qualify for Boston and I have a 34 mile race coming up next summer. I am going to eat as much ice cream as I can until that time.

Money Origami

I watched a guy do some origami the other day and was amazed at what could a simple piece of paper could be turned in to (see other post). I decided I like money much more so I prefer money origami. Here are some reasons why money origami is better. (I borrowed some of this from another site on the net and can't find the link where I got it. Sorry protectors of all content as I am a thief and can not give credit to the original writer)

1. Paper money is always (well, sometimes) readily available especially at parties and in bars

2. It is already cut to shape.

3, The paper is of excellent quality for folding.

4. The rectangular shape of banknotes is a challenge for creative folding.

5. Folded money makes excellent tips.

6. Banknotes carry a printed pattern and words, so that it is a challenge to create a fold which makes use of the word and pattern in meaningful

7. People watching are simply amazed.

8. It allays boredom.

9. Bravado, especially if the banknote is of high value.

10. If a banknote is folded and given away, it presents the recipient with the exquisite dilemma of saving the fold and effectively losing the value of the money or of unfolding the model and losing the model itself.

All Made from One Sheet of Paper

I am not easily impressed when it comes to art. This impresses me. Thanks
Rusty for the sending it to me. Truly incredible. Each piece of art was made from one sheet of paper. All the cut-outs you see were used to make the objects in each photo. The artist is Peter Callessen

Earnings Gambling

Here are my quick opinions on the earnings over the next few days that I think will be positive. No analysis just a quick opinion.

Nutrisystem (NTRI) Good with a big jump in share price (options pretty expensive)

Encore Wire (WIRE) Good earnings too much expectations so lower share price after earnings

Honda (HMC) Great quarter. Just need to make more cars to meet demand

Taser (TASR) Good with a big jump in share price (Nov 10's a big gamble but could pay off huge)

Akami (AKAM) Monster results Load the Boat

Pure speculation and gambling. Don't do anything based on these guesses. Leave that to me.

One day until the Marathon. Drink and peeing like a racehorse trying to hydrate for the race. I don't think that will be as much a big deal as all my other marathons as it is only going to be 35 degrees or so. Taking the video camera to get some footage for the site and maybe something for Wallstrip. We'll see how I feel. My shirt says

Still Not Taking Apple Seriously

Traders are still not taking Apple seriously. Chartist are looking at the technicals and saying it can't move up much more but they need to take their eyes off the screen and go outside and look around. Apple has reached the tipping point. The tipping point is where something spreads like an epidemic. A social virus. Apple is there as a company and has been there for a year with ipods. They have tipped in computers and might even add phones and pdas here very soon. Yes PDAs. I'll give the scoop on that soon as well in a few weeks . With a 2007 PE of 27 this is still an incredible buy. I couldn't believe on another blog that some couldn't find a near term catalyst to make the stock go higher. They also said this 3 days before earnings so if they couldn't see this catalyst I don't expect them to see very far in the future either. The only, and I mean the only thing that is holding this stock under 100 is the options backdating. As soon as that is released and we get it out, this stock is going to take a quick ride up. I am not saying that the options problem won't knock it down a bit but as soon as it does, I'm going to scoop up some cheap shares and average down.

I've Got To Run.....26.2 Miles

Just got back from Cleveland and off to run the Chicago Marathon. I'm not going to win but I bet I'm still faster than any of the Wallstrip cartel. Enjoy the links and have a expiration day. Maybe I'll post tomorrow.

Wallstrip Will Get Better

Give Wallstrip a chance. It seems that every blog I read is somehow connected or at least fans of the bloggers that contribute to the show. They of course, love it but others have been more critical. What we must remember is that everyone involved is new to this form of media. Most of us hide behind our blogs and it is going to take a while to come out from behind them. Also, not all the bloggers are funny. There are a few that are going to take a while to come out of their shell (or their computer) and develop into an on air personality. You could tell from the first day there were some that were trying to have a good time and others that couldn't break from the overboard analysis. That's cool because they need both. Eventually the show will be entertaining and informative. It is just going to take time for the show to find its style. It WILL develop and there will be changes and the end result will be something you'll stop by each day to see. How do I know all this? I work on two TV shows now and have seen both develop over the years and watched how each one found an audience in due time. The talent learned their roles and also felt more comfortable in front of the camera or writing the script. Cast developed a routine which helped them to get more done in the same amount of time. Most importantly, the shows eventually picked up some advertisers that helped ease the financial constraints. One big thing that will make this show a successm, Howard seems to have a magic touch with his projects. At least the ones he talks about.

Steve Wynn Puts Elbow Through $138 Million Picasso

From the Las Vegas Review Journal

Pablo Picasso's "dream" painting has turned into a $139 million nightmare for Steve Wynn.

In an accident witnessed by a group that included Barbara Walters and screenwriters Nora Ephron and Nicholas Pileggi, Wynn accidentally poked a hole in Picasso's 74-year-old painting, "Le Reve," French for "The Dream."

A day earlier, Wynn had finalized a record $139 million deal for the painting of Picasso's mistress, Wynn told The New Yorker magazine

The accident occurred as a gesturing Wynn, who suffers from retinitis pigmentosa, an eye disease that affects peripheral vision, struck the painting with his right elbow, leaving a hole the size of a silver dollar in the left forearm of Marie-Theresa Walter, Picasso's 21-year-old mistress.

"Oh shit, look what I've done," Wynn said, according to Ephron, who gave her account in a blog published on Monday.

Wynn paid $48.4 million for the Picasso in 1997 and had agreed to sell it to art collector Steven Cohen. The $139 million would have been $4 million higher than the previous high for a work of art, according to The New Yorker. to continue reading story

The Best Investment on the Internet....The Internet

It's right in front of out eyes, the best investments on the Internet are the domain names we use on a daily basis. Yes, many call it squatting and resent the people holding the domain names hostage or putting paid parking on the domains. As long as the name is a generic name and not a trademarked name or a typo, I see no reason why this should be viewed as negative. It is no different that buying a piece of property in hopes that it will go up in value... and it WILL go up in value. Much like the old saying "God doesn't make more land, he only makes more people" . The same goes, he doesn't make more dot coms. You can add as many endings as you like but the dot coms are drying up at an amazing rate and finding a common name is impossible. They are now all in the secondary market and increasing in value every day. Again holding trademarks and typos should be illegal but owning imtoofat.com (and I do and park on it) is a great investment. The DNJournal always list domain name sale prices for the week and they are astonishing. This week alone FunGames sold for $350,000. How well do you have to trade to make $350,000? Parking alone pays for most of the cost of a good domain and this is often a determining factor of a generic name domain. They usually sell for 10 years revenue. Again, how many investments do you get a 10% plus return rate? I've been buying names that I think are easy to remember or generic. I deal in plants so I tend to buy names that are in that industry. I've purchased easyg.com, coleus.com, coneflower.com, coneflower.net, macgoogle.com (some trademark issues here but love the name) stepable.com, overmatched.com, carribet.com carripoker.com (always wanted a gambling site) bogame.com, coffeseeds.com, marathonfinder.com, keepyoulegal.com, nurserycatalog.com, thaq.com, but most importantly I have wallstreetfighter.net and .org as well. I won't let any steal off my traffic. The traffic alone (typeins mostly) pay the $6 a year it costs and I am always buying more that would fit my catalog. Folks, this is oceanfront property going for Kansas prices right in front of our eyes. My advice would be to put some of that trading profit into some great generics. It may get you that new Ferrari you want so badly a bit sooner that you thought. Mark this post and check it in 10 years and see if I am not right. Too bad I didn't write this same post 10 years ago.

I Need Steve Jobs Autograph

After my post yesterday I started thinking I better get started now. My Dad has been an avid Apple users since 1978, and I can say I knew I wanted to be in business from the first time I started playing Lemonade Stand on the Apple II. My Dad is the kind of guy that buys everything he needs and is almost impossible to buy for. The ultimate gift for my Dad would a photo or a letter from Steve to my Dad (Terry). It would make up for the thousands of socks and flannel shirts I have bought for him over the years. I made the same request for Fats Domino 10 years back and he sent a photo to my Dad before he passed (Fats that is). If anyone has an inside to Steve or can pass this on please email me. I promise this would never make it to ebay or auction but only into the office of my Father. Thanks for everyone's help in advance. By the way his birthday is in August but I figured I better get a jump.

It's Official It's a Bull Market and I Can Prove It

Here's how I prove it. I believe that Google can be used to search for trends in certain things using their GOOGLETRENDS analyzer. I like at retail stores growth using this by seeing if their searches have gone up or down. I use it for a million different things. I recently typed in the two queries "bull market vs. bear market" and the graph is too the left. It's more than ironic that ther queries are related to the actual sentiment of the market. Look at how many more searches were done during the bear market summer and look how bull market rose to take over the searches in Sept. More than fun in games, it shows real trends. Go to Google Trends to See a LARGE graph or use the trends. Guarantee you'll start using it. Let me know how it goes.

The Ultimate Steve Jobs Autograph

Man would I love to have this. My father is probably the biggest Apple fan of all time. This would be the best gift I could ever give to him and autographed ROM chip by Steve Jobs. Picture better if clicked. more about the chip and how he got it at ComputerHistory.
