The New Penny: A Total Waste Of Money?
Next year marks the 200th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln's birth, and to honor his legacy, the U.S. mint has decided to release an update to the 100-year-old design of the existing penny coin.
The new commemorative coin will feature the same side profile of Lincoln on the front, but will have 4 alternate images on the back.
Shown above, the four images represent: (1.) Lincoln's really depressing-looking log cabin. Jeez, you think this guy could afford a nicer house. (2.) Lincoln slacking off at work in order to 'educate himself'. (3.) Lincoln shown to be just as tall as the Illinois State Capitol. (4.) The half-finished US Capitol dome, which was under construction during Lincoln's tenure. I think we need more half-finished, mid-construction building images on federal money. Glorified 'completed' buildings and monuments are just not cool anymore.

Family Saves $1,800 By Paying Cash Only
Impulse buying is hands down the best way to waste your expendable income. And in this hard-fought consumer-led recession period, every dollar counts.
One family decided enough was enough and diced up 8 of their 9 credit and debit cards. They left the last one literally frozen in a cup of ice in case of emergencies.
Switching to the slow paced cash-only mentality was difficult for the Farhat family profiled by ABC News.com, but it eventually saved them $1,800 in one month.
The cash technique puts an added level of thought to your day-to-day purchases. If you're too lazy to go to the ATM and painfully withdraw money while watching your account level fall, then maybe you shouldn't be using a debit card so much to begin with.
I'm not sure this technique would work too well for the young single guys out there. No online gambling or online spending at all? Bummer. But think of all the good ways to spend those singles at the local strip club and elsewhere.

Why You Should Always Keep $500 Cash In Your House
Banking these days offers a variety of efficient and convenient luxuries, but there are a few reasons why you should always have some straight cash at your fingertips. Are you one of those people who hops from ATM to ATM looking for cash? Or are you the king of online banking and debit cards? I still think you're awesome . . . but get yourself some bills too, dude.
Take for example the IndyMac crisis all over the news right now. Even if your funds were under the FDIC's insurable limit ($100,000), it could take days before you have access to your account. Imagine being stranded in the middle of a bank run without even a couple of hundred bucks at your ready? You'd resort to turning 'tricks' in the local cemetery just to get your daily beer on.
